HEEL PAIN

Heel pain can be extremely uncomfortable and painful if not met with proper care or treatment. Heel pain may occur if you injure or overuse the heel. If left uncared for, the affected area may worsen, limiting your mobility and making it difficult to perform everyday activities.
There are many different causes of heel pain, including strains or sprains, tarsal tunnel syndrome, stress fractures, Achilles tendonitis, and heel bursitis.
Common causes of heel pain may include:

• Poor circulation
• Poor biomechanics when walking or running
• Soft tissue mass
• Rupture of the Achilles tendon

To help ease the discomfort of heel pain, your podiatrist might recommend the use of Orthotics for extra support. However, where pain fails to settle, you may be referred onto one of our Podiatric Surgeons to discuss surgery options.

ARCH PAIN or PLANTAR FASCIITIS

Arch pain or Plantar fasciitis is the most common foot complaints reported. It occurs when the long band of tissue that runs along the length of your foot becomes inflamed due to overuse, or injury to the plantar fascia. If you have plantar fasciitis, you may feel pain and stiffness in the heel and arch. Pain is typically worse upon awakening and becomes more painful after prolonged standing or activities where you’re on your feet. Treatment may include stretches, or Orthotics to ease the pain, however, where pain fails to settle, you may be referred onto one of our Podiatric Surgeons to discuss surgery options.

ACHILLES PAIN

Achilles’ pain occurs when the tendon that attaches the heel to the calf muscles becomes painful or inflamed due to overuse. To help ease the discomfort of Achilles’ pain, your podiatrist will observe the biomechanics of your feet to assess foot motion and recommend the best treatment, which may include stretches and or Orthotics.
